IMPORTANT UPDATES ON MITCHELL HAMMOCK DEVELOPMENT
For the second time this hearing has been cancelled at the last minute. We will work to find out the reason for this additional delay and update you all here. See the Videos for developments regarding the project from last week's City Council meeting. Updates from the 10/21 City Council Meeting: Mayoral Candidate Megan Sledak presented petitions to Council from residents wanting to delay the comp plan change. Council voted to use the services of a Special Legal Counsel to oversee the city's review of the developer's plan. |
On Tuesday, October 15th, the Developer of the proposed project requested a "Continuance" therefore the Public Hearing scheduled for October 15th was agreed to be postponed to a future date of TUESDAY OCTOBER 29th, 2019 at Oviedo City Hall.
Please mark your calendar if you wish to attend as the City Manager confirmed at the meeting that this "Special Meeting" will not be publicly advertised. Time shall be 6:30 p.m. and if that should change an update will be posted here as well.

The Oviedo City Council voted 4-1 on Monday September 16th to allow the proposal to change the Comprehensive Plan to move forward for "transmittal" to the second stage of the process where the proposal is sent up to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (FDEO) for further review.
The vote was split as follows:
Dominic Persampiere - Mayor - Voted In Favor
Jeff Chudnow - Council Member - Voted In Favor
Robert Pollack - Council Member - Voted In Favor
Steve Henken - Council Member - Voted Against
Keith Britton - Council Member - Voted In Favor
This means that there is just one last hurdle to cross and this can come up for a vote back before the council for final approval within 30 days. Below is the description of the stages this amendment has to follow, the first of which occurred April 4th, 2019 and the second hearing has now occurred at this past Council meeting on September 16th.
There is only one public hearing left to decide the fate of this Comprehensive Plan Amendment.
Pursuant to Section 163.3184(2), Florida Statutes (F.S.), the subject future land use (FLU) map amendment qualifies as a large-scale comprehensive plan amendment. Per Sections 163.3184(3)and (11), F.S., a large-scale comprehensive plan amendment requires two (2) advertised public hearings of the local government body, which shall be a transmittal public hearing and an adoption hearing. Per LDC Section 2.4(E), the LPA shall conduct a public hearing regarding amendments to the Comprehensive Plan; therefore, this proposed comprehensive plan amendment shall be required to undergo three (3) public hearings.

our mission statement |
Oviedo is the great city where we have all chosen to live. Now is the time for us to step off the sidelines and take an active role in shaping our city’s future. In the 2017 Mayoral election we had a total voter turnout of less than 4000 people in a city with a population near 40,000.
We have not been paying attention, and in that void decisions can be made that many of us may feel are not always in our best interest. The purpose of this site will be to serve as a non-partisan, fact based portal to provide information about what we “the citizens” of Oviedo want for our city and what our city leadership is doing to align with what we would like to see for our town.
We are the ones that place the people in city government that make the decisions that affect our neighborhoods, housing, traffic, commerce and overall lifestyle here in the city of Oviedo. Therefore we have a responsibility to hold those in office accountable - not after decisions are already made - but when they are being proposed so we can make our voices be heard.
It’s time to be proactive and not reactive. This website will be a place for all residents from all neighborhoods across the city of Oviedo to find information on how our city government is functioning and what the short and long term plans are for future growth and development in our city.
If you are interested in receiving updates from this site on the issues affecting our city and how you can add your voice, please provide your information below so we can start this journey as active participants in the issues that affect our families lives and futures here in Oviedo in our city. This city belongs to its people - It’s Your Oviedo.
